Heaven-Haven: A Nun Takes the Veil (2007)

art song for mezzo-soprano and piano

Poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins

Duration: 1:00

Notes

This song was written as part of a text-setting exercise while I was at Catholic University. Unlike most of my music, this was written almost completely away from my keyboard and computer. The song’s text is ambiguous: the speaker has desired these things, but we never know if she got them. I try to be just as vague and unfinished: a passing thought.
